Senate Democrats are preparing an aggressive legislative agenda to complement the vision President Obama outlined in his State of the Union Address. The goal is to test the idea that the public supports an agenda of aggressive federal action on behalf of the middle class, and that Republicans are locked in a pattern of reactionary opposition, even to popular policies.
“Don’t be surprised if election year pressures in 2012 may push Republicans to cooperate with this President more than they might be planning to,” said Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) at a Wednesday Democratic leadership briefing with reporters. “Otherwise they’re going to find themselves on the wrong side of the middle class again and again.”

Or, as we might say, a dose of their own medicine.
Sounds like a reasonable plan, but it obviously has two drawbacks: 1) a good deal of this will be political posturing of the first order, a gimmick we hate from the other side, and 2) gridlock is officially guaranteed.
Let the games begin.

Bil,
The Democrats "plan" to put the GOP on the wrong side of the middle class?
The GOP have been, for the last three or more decades. I agree about the gridlock, but it's been the GOP plan all along, so nothing's changed, there.
Besides, these GOP defenders can't make up their minds whether there is "class warfare," or even if there ARE classes. They can't have a cogent argument when they don't know what they are even talking about.
I forsee a huge blue landslide in November.....

But, it gets republicans on the record as to who they REALLY represent.

The leaders are masters of double speak and the minions are masters of double think.
They will just tell the minions that they REALLY are working in their best interests, even when they vocally and openly crap all over them in favor of their "inner party". The minions will eat it up and gladly sacrifice more and more to their leaders.
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH!!

Come to the table and bargain in good faith or expect to have to explain why. Sounds like a fair plan to me.

I agree Monkey. The GOP has been on the wrong side of the middle class for years.

The latest CBS poll on the president's SOTU has 91% positive rating. That's pretty high for a president who is, by the GOP definition, "the worst president in American history."
I'm not entirely sure, but doesn't that outrate his first two? If so, it's a telling sign of the mood of the country, and the GOP will be at odds to explain why.
Oh, I forget....They just won't mention anything that doesn't jibe with their lies.
Angry,
Ignorance won't get anyone elected, though!

I'm just happy to see that much of the country getting into that sort of mood. Maybe there is hope for a wake up.
It's the mood they should have been in all along.

Senate Democrats Plan To Put Republicans On The Wrong Side Of The Middle Class
Senate Democrats don't have to lift a finger to do that, LONNNNGGGGGGggggg ago the republicans put themselves on the wrong side of the middle class.

What I can't understand is how the R's are going to position themselves on the side of wealthy corporations and individuals and NOT take a hit from the 99%. They are continuing to do this time and time again. If Obama and the D's get aggressive - something I sincerely hope they do - it will just accentuate the differences between the parties.
Done correctly, the Republicans will be in a position to pay a very heavy price.

I am so glad that every four years is an election year. For at least one year out of four, I know, the dems will behave like dems.
Every four years I get a reminder of why I voted for them. That's good because for the other three years they forget who voted for them

Problem is that 3 out of 4 years I am reminded that both parties represent the wealthy and elite and Democrats only pretend to be for the middle class to retain/gain power.
But atleast they pretend....

“We intend to test this theory out by pursuing major chunks of the President’s middle class agenda. We’re going to push serious proposals to help create middle class jobs. We’re going to defend Medicare. And we will pursue tax reform that makes sense for the middle class,” Schumer said.
"Words, words, words. All I get is words. First from him and than from You". (My Fair Lady)
I do not trust Republicans or Democrats. I see "good cop, bad cop" scenario". Repubs (with the bankers) are going for "drown in a bath tub", which they have done a good job at, with the help of the Dem's (with the help of the bankers) and a lot of talk for the majority of us. Words on both sides that divide us.
Stand against them, those, the powers that be.
Who is them? Most of my life, there was no answer though we knew "someone" was running things. Now we know.
Fed, bankers, multi national corporations, globalist.

The last president that balanced our budget was Andrew Jackson. He took on the banks, who were cocky and said, "we control the money". Taught them.
Obama, teach them again!
Rambled. Sorry.
P.S. once again of filling in those squiggly things. No bad words, no threats-unless my words are?

No kidding. Why they get off the track is beyond me. It's not like Dems have never been on track when it was not an election year. It's just not happened often since Reagan. It's a sad commentary though.
For goodness sake....get in there and govern like a Democrate!
I'm starting to see some moderation on the Repub side. That's also because it is an election year. That Repub rebuttal to the SOTU was very mild compared to the usual rhetoric coming out of the GOP. They see the writing on the wall. But don't be fooled by their less extreme demeanor.

Republicans have been on the opposite side from the middle class for over 30 years. Its long pat time democrats got around to pointing it out.

Um, not a lot of effort needed for this. Just simply point at the GOP hanging out with tax cuts for the wealthy.

Obama and the dims look to further divide the nation. There is only one side to be on. The side of Americans. Put an end to Obama's class warfare.
Senate Democrats Plan To Put Republicans On The Wrong Side Of The Middle Class
The D's can just sit back update their statuses on Facebook, Tweet inane 140 character observations, read Homer's Odyssey on their Nooks or Kindles......
Because the GOP is doing all the work for them.
This is what is called a GIMME.
